TWO!!

I am two is what Milo ran out to tell us this morning when he woke up, even holding up two fingers. He practiced all week and finally could hold down the extra three he needed to this morning.

Milo managed to blow out both of his candles. He seemed to enjoy his cake even after it had to be salvaged from near total disaster. It is a bear in case you are wondering.

The gifts! He got so much great stuff. He seemed to really like opening everything. He would open a gift then play with it for awhile before moving on to the next present to unwrap.

growing, growing, growing

Harper was three months on Friday. He is hitting all sorts of milestones -- smiling, laughing, rolling. He is a very chattery baby. He has lost almost all of his hair just like Milo did. I am thinking we will have another blonde haired blue eyed child.

trick or treat

Trick or treating was in our town tonight. Milo dressed as a scarecrow. He had a blast going door to door yelling trick or treat and holding open his bag for a treat. We will celebrate on Saturday by carving pumpkins and going to the Halloween parade.

where does the time go?

Harper is eight weeks old today and Milo will be two in a month and a half! I just can't get over how fast the time speeds by. Some days I want to freeze time just to squeeze in a bit more time to enjoy the moments.

We are settling in really well. We have a nice flow going to our days. Things can be challenging at times, but you kind of have to expect that with two under two.

We have all been enjoying the cool days outside. Milo is enjoying his tricycle and working hard at peddling. Harper is smiling and starting to coo. I can't wait for the first baby giggle.

enjoying our babymoon

We are enoying the time we are taking to get to know our new family. Going from one to two has felt very natural for Patrick and I. I thought it might be a bigger adjustment, but maybe because we already knew what to expect it has made it easier.

My muscles are still a bit sore from labor and birthing, but overall I am feeling really good. Patrick makes sures I am taking it easy and not overdoing it. He is such an amazing husband and father. I never have to ask him to step up to do something, he just takes care of what needs to be done. I am so glad he will be home for another two weeks.

Harper's personality seems to be very similiar to Patrick and Milo, laid back. He is a very content baby. I am anxious to see how he changes over the coming weeks and months. He loves to look around and see what is going on around him. He is very interested in watching Milo.

Milo has adjusted to Harper really well. I think birthing at home and not having the expectation that he would be jealous helped his transition. I also think choosing to have quiet family time for the first few weeks before visitors has helped things feel less chaotic for him.

The midwife visited on Saturday to check on us. Harper's weight was 8 lbs 13 oz. When she returned on Monday he was at 8lbs 15.5 oz. We will probably do another weight check around two weeks, but he is gaining well at this point. They usually like to see them back up to birth weight by two weeks. Harper is nursing really well, so I think he will be with no problems.

We are enjoying our bonding time as a family, our babymoon. This time is so very special to us.

tuckered out

It's hard work being the big brother!

Milo fell asleep while on the deck today. I guess he tuckered himself out after a full day of being a big brother.

The birth of Harper Moon

I started having some very mild contractions and losing bits of mucous plug about 2 weeks before Harper arrived. On August 5th I had contractions throughout the day, but they were still mild and had no rhythm to them. We decided to go to bed around 10pm. At 1:30am I woke up Patrick to tell him we should time some contractions because they seemed to be coming more regularly. They were 8 to 10 minutes apart, lasting for 1 minute. I was losing more mucous plug and having bloody show at that point. At 2:30am I was ready to lie back down and try to get some more rest. By 4am we were back up as the contractions seemed much closer together, but I was still able to talk through them. They were 3 to 5 minutes apart, lasting for 1 minute. We called my mom and told her she should probably plan to head to our house instead of work. The plan was for her to take care of Milo while I labored and birthed. At 4:40am Patrick called our midwife to give her a heads up that we would probably be having a baby today. She asked to speak to me and I let her know I felt good and thought it would still be awhile, so I wasn’t ready for her to come yet. She said to call when I was ready for her to head to our house.

Patrick started getting the birth supplies moved to our bedroom, got our bed prepared, and began blowing up the birth pool. Milo woke up around 5am to see what was going on. We ate some jello while Patrick went between helping me through contractions and prepping stuff. I was laboring on my birth ball and felt more pressure and moved to the bed to lie down. I hollered for Patrick to come help me through a contraction. I told him I was feeling an intense pressure and felt my body pushing and thought he needed to look to see if he could see the baby’s head. I still had my pajama pants and underwear on!! The contractions suddenly had become one on top of the other. Patrick helped to get my pants off and he pushed my underwear to the side to see if he saw anything. He said there is nothing and suggested he call the midwife again. I said wait until the wave of pushing comes to check again and the baby’s head was out! He ripped my underwear off as quickly as possible and caught the baby as his body slid out. From the time I got onto the bed until the baby was born happened in a short 5 minute span! Milo had calmly stood by Patrick as his baby brother was born.

Patrick called the midwife to let her know that we had a little boy, all seemed healthy, and he was happily nursing. She was stunned and told him she would be there as quickly as possible. We all sat in bed as the baby nursed while we waited for my mom and the midwife to arrive. After the midwife arrived she checked us over and Patrick cut the baby’s cord shortly after 8am.

We were both stunned that the baby arrived as quickly as he did. We had planned a homebirth, but not an unassisted birth. It was amazing and everything I knew my body could do.

Harper Moon arrived on August 6, 2009 at 5:36am, weighing 9 pounds 3 ounces and measured 22 inches long.

updating again soon and other news

I hope to start updating again in the next few weeks. Patrick and I have been very busy.

We got moved at the end of January. We aren't quite settled yet, but are getting there. We are replacing all the flooring throughout the house with cork and tile. The bathrooms are in the process of being remodeled. Chasing a toddler and pregnancy really slows you down!!

Patrick is enjoying work. It is a bit stressful with all the happenings at the company, but we are riding it out the best we can.

Milo continues to amaze us daily. He is talking tons and is a very happy laid back child.

I am more than half way through my pregnancy. Shocking how fast it is going by. I found an incredible midwife that has a very natural approach to pregnancy and birth. We go in today for an ultrsound.

Will be back with more details later.
